This new series goes behind the scenes of high-school journalism. It focuses on a group of Florida students who work hard to produce their school newspaper, while simultaneously attempting to handle the stresses and pressures of teen life. These are dedicated, competitive and fearless newshounds, who squeeze their studies - and private lives - to one side in their quest to get the biggest stories on the pages of their publication.
Cypress Bay High School in Florida has more than 5,500 pupils and, to keep them all informed, it has an award-winning student newspaper: The Circuit. Staffing the paper is a group of highly motivated, fiercely combative students whose interpersonal relationships seem to be as much of a hindrance as they are a help in putting the publication together.
The two dominant personalities are copy editor Amanda and sports editor Alex, who have become close friends over the two years they have spent working for The Circuit. However, now that they are approaching their final year, the bond between them is about to come under real strain: the position of editor-in-chief is up for grabs, and both power-hungry Amanda and the widely popular Alex are in the running.
Among the other editorial contributors to The Circuit are Cassia, an activist journalist who doubles as entertainment editor and long-time confidante of Amanda; Dan, the zany staff writer who is threatening to get serious after years of madcap antics; and clubs editor Giana, a major player at the newspaper for two years who has lofty ambitions of her own and fancies her chances of becoming editor-in-chief.
The journalists are supported by business manager Adam, a natural salesman who seems to have every single one of his fingers in every pie he can find, and assistant business manager Trevor, who supplements his role by designing and laying out pages as well as being the guy the other staff members turn to when technology either defeats them or lets them down. Added to that, Trevor's also been busy giving Giana some "support" of a different kind...
Fiver is showing all eight episodes of the first series this week. As the appointment of the new editor-in-chief is made, the group's dynamic is affected, even threatening the very future of the newspaper itself.
