Wildlife cameraman Gavin Thurston goes in search of grizzly bears on an Arctic island, where no one has ever filmed before. Snow and strong winds tear across the island, and with grizzlies on the loose, this is a highly inhospitable and dangerous environment. Gavin and his crew are reluctant to take a gun for protection, despite the local's advice. They do however have the expertise of Buck Wilde, the bear whisperer.
Buck Wilde, never travels with a gun, or even 'bear spray'. Instead he uses just his voice and a black bin bag for protection. He is an expert in bear and wolf behaviour and has worked with the US National Parks Service for many years. Viewers follow Gavin and Buck in action as they come across curious teenager bears clustered around their tents and a group of white mysterious wolves. As very few humans go to this island, the team are able to have extraordinarily close contact with the animals, resulting in some fantastic filming shots. Buck trusts that his knowledge of bear behaviour will keep them safe and as viewers see, Gavin must trust him too. A great second chance to see this classic BBC documentary.
