Palau (pictured) is a remote chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean. When National Geographic scientist Lee Berger visited the islands, he heard rumours of a possible discovery of fossilised human remains. Berger, a palaeoanthropologist responsible for many ground-breaking discoveries about early man, set off to investigate. Were these the remains of a local hunter? A soldier from one of the many battles fought on the islands during the Second World War, or something completely different?

As Berger wanders into the mysterious cave where the remains lie, it becomes clear that they could hold a secret that could upset our understanding of human evolution. National Geographic Channel follows his search for scientific answers to the lost tribe of Palau.
