This 2006 zany comedy is perfect for Jack Black fans. Even with cameos from Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl (as Satan), it's still pretty much an all-Black affair, and is unlikely to make new converts. So, if you've caught School of Rock or the Tenacious D TV series, you'll have some idea of the comic treats in store.
Unappreciated by his "nowheresville" family (and bible-thumping father Meat Loaf), JB (Black) heads to Venice Beach, armed with nothing but a guitar and a stadium dream. An apprenticeship with hard-rocking KG (Kyle Grass) gives him a taste, but for the real deal the pair need to steal a legendary green guitar pick, fashioned from the devil's tooth...
Did you know? David Grohl, who appears as Satan, also played Satan in the video for the Tenacious D song, Tribute, which is also mentioned in the film. Grohl also lent his talents to several songs on Tenacious D's self-titled CD.
