Ennio Morricone's music has been well known to movie goers for decades and his work was recognised at the 79th Academy Awards ceremony, when he won the Lifetime Achievement Oscar. Born in 1928 in Rome, Morricone went to school with film director Sergio Leone, with whom he would later form one of the greatest director/composer partnerships in cinematic history. This documentary examines his talent for sparse arrangements, unorthodox instrumentation and memorable tunes. Having revolutionised the way music was used in Westerns, Morricone went on to produce over 400 film scores. Clips from his most famous films, including The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, combine with a performance by the Munich Philharmonic orchestra to produce a fascinating retrospective of his work.
