Imogen Edwards-Jones's Hotel Babylon continues to impress as the seventh episode of the current series hits the screen. With some fine writing from Andrew Rattenbury, this week's show is well up to standard with a finely-balanced mix of drama and farce. In a darker-than-usual storyline, concierge Tony (Dexter Fletcher) and PR Emily (Alexandra Moen) get involved in rescuing the 15-year old victim of a human trafficking gang, while F&B manager James (Ray Coulthard) finds love under a table. But is it the real thing? Barman Gino (Martin Marquez) definitely knows something. Meanwhile, Anna (Emma Pierson) and Ben (Michael Obiora) are preoccupied with illusionist Dan Black (David Schneider, pictured) who is undertaking his next big stunt - disappearing from Trafalgar Square.
So, what's keeping the series fresh? Part of the answer, apart from the strong cast and plotting, has to be its distinctive look. Clever cuts and camera angles can be seriously irritating in the wrong hands, but here the slick visuals add pace and style to a five-star experience. Delia Pemberton
