The name Herod is synonymous with villainy and murder. He was best known for the biblical 'massacre of the innocents', when he ordered the slaughter of all the baby boys in Bethlehem. He was also responsible for the execution of his own sons and the murder of his wife, who he then had preserved in honey.
However, one of history's most famous tyrants is also a celebrated visionary, whose engineering feats included man-made mountains with cities buried within, the world's largest artificial harbour and one of the largest wonders of the ancient world: the Temple Of Jerusalem (pictured). The true story behind this commoner's rise to power and his turbulent time as King of the Jews is revealed.
