Screeching onto LIVING2 this week is the brand new Australian reality series Desperate Learners Driving School, presented by former Test cricketer Mike Whitney (pictured). The show follows ten of Australia's worst drivers, who are revved up and determined to finally pass their test. As well as the chance to secure themselves that ever-elusive license, there is an added incentive for the learners to buckle down to practice - whoever passes their test will drive away in a brand new car.
The Desperate Learners Driving School is the last chance saloon for the contestants - between them they have spent thousands of dollars on lessons and countless years stuck with L-plates, and have managed to frustrate not only themselves, but also their instructors, friends and families. Sick of the feelings of failure and desperation which come from the countless rounds of lessons and practice-sessions they undertake, each of the learners is determined to achieve their goal and drive off into the sunset aboard a flashy new motor.
The ten driving dunces are split into two teams, with each group receiving lessons from an experienced instructor - Jann Shipley for the red team, and Chris Breen for the blues. After a set of lessons, each episode sees the teams face a driving challenge. The instructor of the winning team then selects one of their group to sit their test in the following episode, so impressing the tutor earlier in the week is of the utmost importance. Executive producer of the show David Mason said: "When we created the show we had no idea it would produce so many tears, so much panic and so much frustration."
As a contestant on this show it was one of the most amazing experiences of my l;ife to date, I hope that you all enjoy this fantastic journey of us every day people trying despretly to learn how to drive.....
