This feature-length documentary follows the attempt by adventurer Bear Grylls (pictured) and his friend Gilo Cardozo to fly paramotors - flimsy paraglider chutes powered by a backpack motor - above the height of Mount Everest.
But before they can tackle Everest, Gilo will have to design and build a powerful but light machine that can fly where no other has gone before, and the pair will have to convince their wives to let them undertake a mission with no guarantee of success, let alone survival. And even before they can set off, their experimental motor is all but destroyed in testing and Bear is in serious trouble over the relatively tranquil English countryside.
As the day of the flight approaches, they face the reality of the challenge ahead: temperatures of -40oC that will freeze any exposed flesh, hurricane-force winds that could dash them against the mountain beyond all hope of rescue, and lack of oxygen at 30,000ft that could cause blackout and almost certain death in seconds.
After days of travelling just to reach base camp, and caught in snow storms, Bear and Gilo desperately prepare to catch the brief weather window that comes only a few times a year. Will they be able to fulfil their dream, conquer the world's highest mountain and come home alive?
