Surprises and adventure on the high seas are the order of the day as this documentary combines gripping human drama with spectacular natural history photography to tell the story of a unique encounter at the ice-caked bottom of the world: the Antarctic Ocean.

The Japanese whaling fleet sets off into the Southern Ocean in pursuit of its prey. En route to frustrate their fishing is the Greenpeace vessel Esperanza, with its diverse crew of environmental activists. In a rare access coup, renowned film-maker Morgan Matthews has gained access to the Esperanza (the Battleship Antarctica of the film's title).

This film is the spectacular, poignant and at times extremely funny account of Morgan's nearly two months filming with the Greenpeace voyage during their 2007 expedition to confront the Japanese fleet. This is not just a story of a remarkable journey, but also a revealing portrait of the eclectic crew on board, exploring the motivation to spend months at sea and the consequences of that decision on life and love.

After weeks of searching, Greenpeace encounter their old adversary, in the most extraordinary of circumstances. This timely film, by turns intimate and epic, is scheduled to transmit as the Japanese fleet's 2008 whaling expedition gets underway, and the issue of whale-hunting once again features prominently on the international news agenda.

Greenpeace really needs to stop watching whales die while they take pictures and combine their funding with Sea Shepherd and activly stop whales from dieing.

    Everyone should see this film.

If only to expose the sham that is Greenpeace.

If they really wanted to make a difference, they would get over themselves and cooperate with Sea Shepherd - the only real organisation that is there to get things done.

Ah yes the avon ladies of the environmental movement. Once we have our images then we can leave the area and raise some more funds. Not to mention collecting money to save the whales when we arent even down in the Southern Ocean Whale sanctuary, and then tell everyone that we are out of funds.

Its really sad because honest hard working people actually beleive they are making a diffrence when they donate to these avon ladies!

It's a shame that they spend all the money we donate to go all the way down there, and then don't actually do anything but take MORE pictures. I'm beginning to wonder if the allegations about Greenpeace having become a massive corporate cash-cow are true. I'll be donating to a smaller direct action group in future.
