This classic all-action WWII espionage thriller sees an elite group of commando's which are dispatched to the Bavarian Alps where an American general is being held by a group of Nazi's.

When a British aircraft is shot down and crashes in Nazi held territory the Germans capture the only survivor, an American General, and take him to the nearest SS headquarters.

However, unknown to the Germans who have captured him, General George Carnaby (Robert Beatty) has a full background briefing on the forthcoming D-Day operation.

Now, worried that the General will leak this highly classified information, the British order Major John Smith (Richard Burton) to lead a crack commando team to rescue him.

However it soon becomes apparent that not only do they have to fight the German army to get to the General, they also have to deal with a traitor within their midst.
