Science professor, Kevin Burke (Christopher Sieber) is a single father to two schemeing pre-teen identical twin daughters, Mary-Kate (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Ashley (Ashley Olsen) and believes there is a scientific explanation for everything except how to control them.
Mary Kate and Ashley are complete opposites despite their biology. Mary Kate is a complete tomboy whose biggest interest is perfecting her curve ball, not her figure; and Ashley is the straight-A student who is just discovering the joys of setting off a boy-crazy phase.
Carrie (Sally Wheeler), is a 28-year-old freshman in one of Kevin's seminar classes. She is quirky, difficult, beautiful and quick to speak her mind, so when she answers Kevin's ad for a part-time nanny for the girls, he is convinced she's nothing but trouble...and the girls love that.
Due to this new addition to the household the sisters agree to put their differences aside and join forces to make a little chemistry between their by-the-book dad and this beautiful woman who seems to be able to push all the right buttons.
