In this clever drama series we see North Jersey mafia boss, Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), reluctantly seeking psychiatric help after blacking out, this therapy is kept totally secret from the rest of the mob for fear of being seen as weak and his power undemined as a result.
A self described 'Waste Management Consultant', which is a pun in itself considering his real career, he is having troubles at home also. His teenage daughter is driving his wife round the twist, who inturn drives him round the bend. His elderly and sickly mother refuses point blank to go into a retirement home, no matter how much money he spends on it, but still requests all his time. His aging Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) refuses to play the game and even makes arrangements for Tony's assassination and to make matters worse the FBI are closing in on the mob and he has a mistress who won't behave - its enough to drive anyone into the arms of a therapist!
Tony must come to terms with the circumstances of his father's death, with his mother's manipulations and with his fears of death and loss of family through his therapy sessions.
This drama has moments of black comedy interspersed with aggressive, adult drama, with adult language, and violence.
