Programme Information

Sarah (Robin Tunney) is a 17 year old with a troubled past. Uprooted by her parents and moved to Los Angeles where she begins the final year at St. Benedict's Academy. She finds her snooty high school crowd hard to fit in with so instead, she gravitates to a fringe brigade of black lipstick and nails: Nancy (Fairuza Balk), a complete rebel who is despised by jocks and cheerleaders, Bonnie (Neve Campbell) who is horribly ashamed of the scars on her back, and African-American Rochelle (Rachel True) who has always been the butt of racist bullying.

Forming a coven of witches, the four girls pass their witchcraft exams with honours, using their powers to get even. This leads to some extremely creepy and almost psychedelic shock effects, but the film belongs to the truly terrifying Balk, whose cold, piercing mascara'd eyes have never since found a better movie.
