This highly acclaimed film has been adapted from the famous the novel by Roddy Doyle.
Young Dubliner Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins) is a man with a vision for success, money and, of course, music.
Realising his dream, Jimmy advertises for musicians for a soul band in his local district of Barrytown. After enduring some very painful auditions he finally makes his selection.
He discovers three wonderfully voiced backing singers by accident and quite literally in his backyard; Imelda Quirke (Angeline Ball), Natalie Murphy (Maria Doyle Kennedy) and Bernie McGloughlin (Bronagh Gallagher).
His lead singer, Deco Cuffe (Andrew Strong), is found whilst attending a wedding. Finally receiving a decent advert reaction he discovers their aging trumpet player, Joey "The Lips" Fagan (Johnny Murphy).
Now the band is ready to perform and song by song and gig after gig their climb to the top starts rapidly and they develop a loyal following on the pub circuit and finally Dublin discovers its Soul!
However internal strife starts and their manager gets totally fed up with the constant bickering between the yobbish lead singer, their wandering eyed trumpet player and a drummer with a distinct psychotic streak and now the girls have started falling out.
Now the question remains; Will the Commitments slip away?
An absolutely brilliant film with a superbly stroing soul music soundtrack.
