Programme Information

This farcical period comedy has been based in the 18th Century and finds two families about to become better acquainted through an arranged marriage.

Set around an English country house, the owners of this fancy estate want to arrange a union through marriage between their elder daughter and an aristocratic heir of a hard-up noble family.

This marriage is purelky for convenience sakes - The Sterlings are a classless nouveau riche family wanting a better social standing in the community, the Ogleby's on the other hand have the aristocratic bloodline and social standing, but no money.

However, the planned marriage suffers a last-minute upset when the would-be husband switches affections to the bride's sister.
