It all began in 1987, when Gene Roddenberry along with other Paramount writers decided to create another series in the highly successful Star Trek saga.
The first episode Encounter at Farpoint aired about the time that the immensely popular Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home came out on video cassette. Patrick Stewart, along with Marina Sirtis and the other British members of the cast have told tales of how they were all literally living out of suitcases, constantly poised, ready to return to England at a moments notice.
However, after a few episodes and the end of the First Season it was clear that Paramount had another huge success on their hands. There was character development, better plots and storylines, the show went from strength to strength. But, after 7 Seasons (177 Episodes) the writers did indeed decide to pull the plug.
