This disturbing drama is based on the true story of Karen Silkwood, a worker in an Oklahoma nuclear plant who left to meet with a reporter from the New York Times, but she never got there.

The story starts when Karen (Meryl Streep) finds she has become infected by the radiation at her plant - knowing that she followed the safety regulations to a tea gets suspicious.

After many more mysterious contaminations Karen decides to blow the whistle on the dangerous practices undertaken at the Kerr-McGee plant.

Unfortunately, though, she was killed in an horrific car accident on her way to meet a reporter in order to get the story out. The circumstances of her sudden and tragic death are still the topic of many debates today and many believe this was no accident.
