Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman) is a precocious 10th grade student at this school where he fails calss after class, but he's the king of extracurricular activities, excellent at organizing clubs and school plays.
However when he discovers that he has been put on academic probation and subsequently expelled after one of his may schemes, he is sent to Rushmore elementary school.
Whilst here he befriends a depressed and old factory owner, the millionaire Herman Blume (Bill Murray) and he also begins to have feelings for one of his teachers, recently widowed Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams).
However when Max discovers that Herman also shares the same feelings for Miss Cross, he seeks his revenge. However Blume retaliates and what ensues is nothing less than war and Max's trouble deepens and how he sets about resolving it is the story in the film.
