Young soldier Kevin Deakin, pronounced dead during the Falklands War, is given full military funeral honours. But seven weeks later, he reappears, apparently suffering from amnesia. He is given a hero's welcome when he returns to his home town but when he resumes army life, his fellow soldiers are determined to bring him down on a charge of desertion. Broken physically and mentally, he is admitted for treatment in a military hospital where among the patients is a soldier whose life he had saved. With Tom Bell and Rita Rushingham as his parents and Rudi Davies as his girlfriend Julie.
