Unfortunately Poldark isn't on the air any time soon.
Programme Information
This is a romantic 16-part serial based on the novels by Winston Graham and set in 1780s Cornwall.
Ross Poldark (Robin Ellis) returns to Cornwall from fighting in the American War of Independence to claim his inheritance, which consists of a house and two copper mines.
However, on his return he finds that everyone had presumed him killed in action after a 2-year absence, and all his belongings have been claimed by others. Unfortunately this isn't the only things that have been taken from him, not only is his patrimony in ruins but his childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth (Jill Townsend) is now engaged to be married - to his cousin Francis (Clive Francis).
He must now try and rebuild his life, and fortune from scratch. While drowning his sorrows over his loss of Elizabeth, Poldark succumbs to a night of temptation with a, now full-grown, street urchin he rescued from the streets called Demelza (Angharad Rees).
When Poldark realises that Elizabeth's marriage is waning he asks her to come back to him, however fate has a horrible knack of rearing its ugly head at the most inopportune moments and Demelza admits to being with child leaving Poldark with no other option than to marry her.
And the story begins on the trail of rebuilding his past life.
