History quite literally comes to life for night watchman Larry (Ben Stiller) when the exhibits inside the museum he's protecting spring to life. The problem is, it's his first night on the job and a monkey from the African exhibit has shredded the manual on what to do. Tricky when civil war breaks out between the mannequins, a woolly mammoth thunders past and Attila The Hun is on the rampage. Luckily, a wax model of Theodore Roosevelt (Robin Williams) saves the day (or rather night), but it's only a temporary reprieve - the chaos starts all over again on Larry's next shift.
A superb blend of live action and CGI with Wilson and Steve Coogan in scene-stealing form as the miniature cowboy and Roman centurion at loggerheads over the display case landscape. It's hard to imagine a line-up with more comic potential than this, with Stiller leading the way as the clueless new boy while his mentors Cecil (Dick Van Dyke), Gus (Mickey Rooney) and Reginald (Bill Cobbs), rack up the laughs with their wily behaviour. An innovative addition to the adventure genre.
