This story is an age-old one very much updated for the turn of the millennium.
Sam Bell (Hugh Laurie) is a successful TV writer and, his wife, Lucy (Joely Richardson) is a theatrical agent.
They are committed to each other (as far as they can tell, that is: they are, after all, modern people) and it's time to start a family. This, however, is where the problem comes.
The movie follows Sam and Lucy's efforts to overcome this little problem, initially by means of careful planning, before moving on to New Age birthing rituals, then having sex on ancient ley-lines and, finally, In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).
Lucy becomes increasingly broody and is attracted to the handsome Carl Phipps (James Purefoy). Now Sam and Lucy's love is really put to the test.
One of the funniest films this year.
