This18th century drama is intercut with the story of Rupert Gould (JEREMY IRONS) - the former Naval officer who in the 1920's discovered Harrison's clocks in a state of ruin - and at the cost of his health, his reputation and his marriage, began the mammoth task of restoring the clocks to their original, majestic glory.
