Programme Information

Steve Soderbergh's intensely moving film, set during the Great Depression, sees young Jesse Bradford's family falling apart - his brother is sent to live with an uncle, his ill mother is in hospital and his father must travel to find work. Left to fend for himself in a cheap hotel, he has to rely on his own resources to avoid eviction and supplement his dwindling food supply, helped only by his best friend.
