Kevin Spacey, found wandering at NY Central Station, is taken into psychiatric care because he claims to be Prot from the planet K-PAX, "1,000 of your light years away". Psychiatrist Jeff Bridges doesn't believe him and tries to unlock the trauma but as Prot reveals knowledge that only a handful of astronomers could know and shows an uncanny knack for helping his fellow patients heal, even Bridges begins to wonder.
