This sci-fi blockbuster sees aliens attacking the Earth, and a small band of survivors fighting back to prevent the end of the human race.
It is July 2nd and international communications systems are being sent insane by what appears to be a rather strange atmospheric condition.
Next comes a warning from the military that thousands of meteor-like objects are on a direct collision course with Earth.
However, when dozens of gigantic spacecraft hover over the world's major cities and unleash a wave of destruction, killing millions upon millions of innocent people, the reality of the situation really hits home.
After several failed attempts to communicate with the destructive alien species, David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), a cable technician (and ex-scientist) figures out the alien's plan, attack major points around the world...the next day!
On the 3rd July the aliens set fire and destroy city after city leaving survivors fleeing the cities and heading for Area 51 in Nevada.
These survivors devise a plan to retaliate and July the 4th becomes humanity's Independence Day.
This film Oscar-winner for Visual Effects and one of the highest grossing films of its time
