Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) is the son of Zeus and a mortal woman, leaving him half-mortal. Zeus's jealous wife, Hera causes Hercules to go mad and kill his wife and children leaving him with the need to get revenge on the cruelty of his step-mother.
The remorseful Hercules decides to use his superhuman strength to help humanity. With the aid of his side-kick, Iolaus (Michael Hurst) the pair travel the ancient world to protect humanity and avenge the murder of his wife and children. He is also often helped by the roguish but good-hearted merchant Salmoneus (Robert Trebor).
