Set in working-class South Boston, Good Will Hunting is an Oscar-winning drama about a young lad who works as a janitor at top college MIT and spends most of his time with his coarse friends at the neighbourhood bar.

Twenty-year-old Will Hunting (Matt Damon, pictured) is brilliant, but troubled. He is able to solve complex mathematical theorems nearly without thinking, but he also has some issues.

Will gets caught solving a complex problem written on a blackboard by MIT Professor Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgård). Lambeau wants the genius lad to attend lessions. but after several run-ins with the police he almost gets a custodial sentence.

After some pleading, he gets two conditions for his parole: that he studies maths with Lambeau and that he starts counselling with stubborn therapist Sean Macguire (Robin Williams, pictured). From their sessions comes the film's drama as Damon is forced to deal with the tensions between his blue-collar present and his potential future.

Directed by Gus Van Sant, released in 1997 and also starring Minnie Driver and Ben Affleck, the film won Williams an Oscar for best supporting actor. Damon and Ben Affleck also took an Oscar for best screenplay.
