Winona Ryder stars as a teenager diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder who is confined to a mental institution way beyond the terms of her illness, where she encounters fellow patients Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Moss as well as nurse Whoopi Goldberg and psychiatrist Vanessa Redgrave. James Mangold's film is based on the true story of Susanna Kaysen, who wrote an acclaimed account of her own incarceration.
