Programme Information

Based on the classic Jane Austen novel this is Douglas McGrath's fabulous screen adaptation.

The story tells of a very English congenial young lady called Emma Woodhouse (Gwyneth Paltrow) and is set in 19th century England. She is reknowned for being the town matchmaker but she is also reknowned for uniting men and women who are totally and utterly wrong for each other.

One such incident occurs when Emma attempts to match her friend with the Reverend Elton (Alan Cumming) she falls across some complications, which multiply amongst themselves with cases of mistaken intentions of love and a cast of characters who each love someone else, but Emma doesn't know who loves who.

Despite the deep interest she holds in romance, Emma is totally clueless about her own romantic feelings and her relationship with the gentle Mr Knightley (Jeremy Northam)
