Programme Information

Lars Von Trier's audacious musical stars Björk as a Czech immigrant working in a Washington factory determined to find a better life for her son, who suffers from the hereditary optical disease that has already left her half-blind. Saving every cent for his operation, she is betrayed by her landlord, leading to an act of violence with the most tragic of consequences.
