This charming comedy about rich-kid teenagers in the exclusive Los Angeles suburb of Beverly Hills.
It's not easy being the most popular and glamorous girl at Beverly Hills High. Especially when you're the envy of scheming Betties (gorgeous female acquaintances!), annoyingly persistent Barneys (ugly blokes!), and teachers who go absolutely postal (crazy!) when their homework assignment is late!
However 15-year-old sophomore Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) keeps it all together, the daughter of the highly successful (and stinkingly rich) Mel Horowitz (Dan Hedaya) she likes nothing better than shopping in expensive fashion houses, looking her best, enjoying the company of her vacuous friends, Dionne (Stacey Dash) and Amber (Elisa Donovan) and the challenge of a good old-fashioned makeover.
One of her many 'projects' (projects she thinks will improve the lives of others around her) have included match-making two teachers as she reckons they would give better grades if only they were happy. But her latest challenge is the dorky transfer student. Tai (Brittany Murphy) is suddenly, with the help of Cher et al, transformed into one of the "In Crowd" and finds a boyfriend of her own - something Cher is seriously lacking!
Now Cher's tidy world starts to unravel with the sudden appearance of two Baldwins (hunks) to the school. One is a sexy and stylish new classmate, Christian Stovitz (Justin Walker), and Cher's square but very, very cute "ex-stepbrother", Josh (Paul Rudd).
Now Cher is about to learn that when it comes to love, she's... well, Clueless!!
The film has been very, very loosely based on Jane Austen's 'Emma' and has since been made into a teen sitcom.
