An adaptation of the best-selling historical novel set in the 19th century. After losing her parents in a cholera epidemic, 16-year-old Cissie fights to keep her five young siblings from the workhouse. Evicted from their cottage, they seek refuge in a cave on the Northumberland moors, where a carpenter comes to their aid. When the well-off Fischel family turn their attentions to the struggling family, Cissie must face further hardships.
