Programme Information

When Puerta Rican, Carlito Brigante (Al Pacino) is a petty criminal who is sent to prison and, due to the workings of his corrupt lawyer exploits a legal loophole, is released after just five years.

Determined to go straight, Carlito vows to stay away from his former drug dealing ways but soon finds himself being dragged back into the fold by his past connections and the naive carftiness of his lawyer and friend.

In a last ditch attempt to free himself from this nasty underworld he takes on one final 'job' to enable him to earn enough money to get away from New York for good.

This last 'job' is to buy into a nightclub where he will hopefully raise enough money to go to the Bahamas. He soon renews an old affair with a dancer and life looks as though it is going right for once.

However old associates and old instincts suck him back into a world of violence and mistrust.
