Programme Information

The latest version of Pride and Prejudice involves all the colourful costumes and musical mastery of Bollywood, bringing Austen's superb tale of life and love in another century right up to date. Prim and proper England has been replaced by exuberant India, and formal dancing becomes bhangra, in an Asian update of the classic. The story, however, remains the same: a mother with four daughters wants to find suitable rich and influential husbands for her girls. One headstrong offspring, Lalita, is at first repelled by American Will Darcy who she sees as arrogant and proud. But as she gets to know him she finds herself changing her mind.... a flamboyant and fun-filled extravaganza, where the ladies swap their stays for saris, without detracting at all from a classic romance.
