Unfortunately Bowfinger isn't on the air any time soon.

Programme Information

Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin), is a man who desperately wants to be a movie producer. Bowfinger has tried to make a picture many times, using a variety of methods, most of them dubious, and several frankly illegal. He has never succeeded. Until now, when superstar Kit Ramsay (Eddie Murphy) blunders into his scheme.

For Bowfinger, Ramsay represents the lifeline, his ticket to box-office bonanza and bona fide cinema status. But Ramsay mustn't find out that he is appearing in Bowfinger's movie. The hapless and increasingly paranoid actor is besieged by a succession of bit-players, all in on the stunt and with small roles to play around him.

In between the capers, Martin and Murphy queue up to take potshots at the film industry, satirising the studio system (the film was a Universal title, brave chaps), alien B-movies and Hong Kong martial arts flicks. Murphy can't resist having just one little dig at the Academy: "White boys always get the Oscar. It's a known fact. Did I ever get a nomination? No! You know why? Cause I hadn't played any of them slave roles, and get my ass whipped."
