Unfortunately Black and White isn't on the air any time soon.
Programme Information
Hip-hop culture in New York City attracts White kids from privileged backgrounds and allows young Black men to make a move from crime to the recording studio.
For the White kids, it's a fad they throw themselves into: the girls into sex and at least one boy into violence. For the Black men, there's expression and, perhaps, fame if they're lucky.
Set in New York City, this film features several loosely related stories which center around a pair of documentary filmmakers, Sam Donager (Brooke Shields) and her husband Terry (Robert Downey Jr.).
Sam and Terry are a very wealthy young couple who are taking an interest in this popular culture. She's making a video documentary of White kids that are drawn to this Black pop culture, while he is cruising for men.
The pair follow a group of Caucasian teenagers called; Raven (Gaby Hoffman), Charlie (Bijou Phillips), Will (William Lee Scott), Marty (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Wren (Elijah Wood) who are desperate to be able to fit in to the Harlem Hip Hop scene.
Aswell as Sam and Terry taking an interest, there is a shady cop turned gambler who's motive is unclear, sets up a college basketball player called Dean to throw a game then puts on the squeeze. Finally there's gangster rapper Rich Bower (Oliver 'Power' Grant) and his music partner Cigar (Raekwon) who are trying to land a recording contract.
