For Z 4195 (Woody Allen) is a neurotic ant who thinks life isn't all it's cracked up to be, struggling to express his individuality in a colony of conformists and whose love for the beautiful Princess Bala (Sharon Stone) is totally unappreciated as she is promised to another, a soldier ant.

After realising that he must improve himself to be in with a chance with the Princess, Z agrees to swap places with his friend who is a soldier ant and leads the entire ant colony into a revolution against the terrorizing General Mandible (Gene Hackman)
