A witty and mordant comedy-drama which won Oscars for both direction and screenplay for Joseph L Mankiewicz.

Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell and Ann Sothern star as three friends who all receive letters from another friend telling them that she is about to leave town with one of their husbands: but which one?

The film was going to be called A Letter to Four Wives but Mankiewicz felt that it would be over-long. "Simple", said studio boss Darryl F Zanuck, take out one of the wives, and so Anne Baxter's role ended up on the cutting room floor.
