Programme Information

Beau Bridges stars in this story of the aftermath of a massive earthquake, measuring 10. 5 on the Richter scale. Striking the west coast of North America, it threatens to send a large portion of land crashing into the sea. Whole cities are flooded and thousands of citizens are missing in the devastation. But the earthquake foretells an even more devastating disaster. It reveals that the earth's fault-lines are connecting with a previously unknown fault, lying 700 kilometres below the surface. This chain reaction could split the world and cause the entire west coast of the USA to fall into the Pacific. As panic spreads, there is only one solution to prevent the inevitable: fuse the fault-lines. But only a nuclear explosion can generate the required heat and the sole person who can authorise this is the President of the United States.
