O'Neill discovers a crystal that has a blue light emanating from it when walking through a valley of crystals on planet P3X562. However all is not well when he passes out and a duplicate O'Neill is created by the crystal and returns in his place to try and track down his family (wife, Sara and deceased son, Charlie). Meanwhile O'Neill returns through the gate and Carter and Jackson discover that the crystals contain energy beings that can read minds and mimic people, they also find that the beings had a tragic encounter with the Goa'uld and can't survive Earth's electromagnetic field for long. The team soon track down the double and find out that the being was in fact trying to heal O'Neill of his pain, but the pain was not physical but emotional grief through the loss of his son. Before the being's return to P3X562 it enables the couple to say farewell to their son in an emotional ending.
