Carlton Westcountry broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As part of the ITV network Carlton Westcountry transmits much the same programmes as the other ITV stations, with the exception of a few regional variations.
Carlton Westcountry has been broadcasting since 1993 and is based in Plymouth, Devon. It broadcasts to Cornwall and Devon, as well as to much of Dorset and Somerset. As well as bringing the ITV network to their viewers, they now produce more than twelve hours of regional news and features programmes a week and have won many television awards for this achievement.
Their unique network of eight regional studios uses the latest technology to provide instant coverage of local news all over the region using technology that allows them to provide acomprehensive coverage across the region and to subdivide the news into truly local bulletins. Another feature of Carlton Westcountry is surf reports broadcast alongside the weather. These service are unique in the UK today.
Their studios are linked through a state-of-the-art digital microwave system, which relays pictures and sound from across the West Country to Plymouth, where they can be transmitted to anywhere in the world. As part of the ITV network they deliver the best national programmes to viewers as well as thought-provoking, challenging and entertaining material designed specifically for the local audience.
Carlton Westcountry has continued to be the voice of the region’s communities, an advocate for its people and a campaigner for its interests.
