Channel Information

Anglia Television broadcasts to the East of England and is part of a larger media group owned by United News and Media Plc. The station went on air in 1959 and today serves a population of more than 4 million from its production headquarters in Norwich

The Anglia transmission area covers nine counties and stretches from the Wash to the Thames and westwards to Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It is forecast to be one of the fastest growing regions of the UK in the first decade of the new millennium. Four of the five most rapidly developing centres in Britain are served by Anglia - Milton Keynes, Basildon, Northampton and Peterborough. It is estimated that half a million people commute daily from the region to London.

Farming, food production and new high-tech, science based and service dominated industries are the mainstays of the economy. Tourism also makes a major contribution to the region”s prosperity, the visitor attractions including the Norfolk Broads, historic cities like Cambridge and Norwich and busy seaside resorts such as Great Yarmouth and Southend-on-Sea.

Anglia is the East of England”s most watched television channel and is committed to maintaining a distinctive regional programme service and identity.

As part of United Productions, Anglia is the major provider of daytime and religious programmes for the ITV Network, led by the five days a week Trisha show and the Sunday Morning religious programme. It also produces award-winning documentary programmes for ITV and markets its production facilities and programme making expertise to other broadcasters - including Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky - and across the media spectrum.

The internationally acclaimed Survival wildlife series has been part of Anglia since 1961. It is now linked with Bristol-based Partridge Films in United Wildlife, the world”s largest producer of natural history programmes. Survival”s documentaries are seen on ITV and in 110 countries worldwide. Among scores of awards the series has won over the years are two Emmys, a Bafta and a Queen”s Award for exports.
