BBC1 transmits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

BBC Television was the world's first regular high definition television service which began on November 2nd 1936 from Alexandra Palace, London. In 1949 the BBC acquired 13.5 acres on the Shepherds Bush site of the Franco-British Exhibition of 1908 for their new Television Centre.

Introducing "colour television broadcasts" from November 15th 1969. They have always maintained to be a creative and trusted broadcaster and programme maker. Creating and broadcasting programmes that inform, educate, entertain and enrich peoples lives enables them to satisfy all their audiences and cater for all walks of life.

Athletics: London Grand Prix started at 2:30pm
Live coverage of the second day of the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace, as athletes fine-tune their Olympic preparations with Beijing just a fortnight away. Olympic 10,000m champion Kenenisa Bekele attempts to break Haile Gebrselassie's 5,000m stadium record, Britain's Andy Baddeley takes on reigning world champion Bernard Lagat in the Emsley Carr Mile, and heptathlete Kelly Sotherton competes in a four-event challenge.
