  • Political

We all dread those political broadcasts by whatever party, but, like it or loathe it, whenever there is any kind of local, or general election, or some sort of crisis, it's a lucky TV viewer who can escape falling captive to the politician's gaze.

Early on the politicians saw the potential television had to influence the voter. Every day television is there to report all the political goings-on, including the odd exposure of the latest politician to have been caught putting a foot wrong. Television and politics are now as married to one another as apple pie and custard, and each is as much an essential tool to the one as it is to the other.

Fortunately politics is an area where television is able to defend itself very well, very well indeed, armed with its generals such as John Humphrys, David Dimbleby, David Frost and Brian Walden.
